Meet the Managers of the
All Natural Country Store
An idea grows into an online enterprise.
The stubble-faced man of this management team is David Gurzenski. After getting his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Journalism, David spent half of his career in marketing and publications for such institutions as the University of Arizona, UCLA, United Way, and the City of Hope National Medical Center. Along the way, he developed an interest in real estate investment, which led him to get his California Real Estate License in 2000. But rather than go to work for some agency, David was hired as an academic advisor for the school where he studied for the state license exam. He spent the next five years helping hundreds of students obtain their license, one of them who lived in Big Bear Lake, CA. She invited David up to the resort community high in the San Bernardino Mountains as a thank you for helping her pass the state license exam. He fell in love with the small town, its major industry being tourism.
David also saw the high demand for vacation cabins by visitors who flocked to the ski slopes in winter and the lake and cool mountain air in summer. He purchased his first Big Bear cabin in 2004, trying to spend an occasional weekend in this ideal paradise, but then realized his heart was no longer in Orange County. Now a full-time Big Bear resident, David divides his time between the All National Country Store and managing his three Big Bear vacation rental cabins, as well as his long-term rental in San Diego. As co-manager of the All Natural Country Store, he promotes the business through his marketing and writing skills. He also is available to assist new consultants write news releases and promotional materials for their JR Watkins business.
It was Alan who was responsible for turning David on to Watkins in the spring of 2009, when the recession began to deeply impact the number of people able to escape to the mountains to vacation. Alan has spent the last 20+ years as a resident of Big Bear Lake, CA. His career path includes 13 years as a Tupperware Manager; he was ranked #7 in the country in 1986. Alan used many of his Tupperware management skills to establish his own Big Bear business. The local store was called the Big Bear Candle Company. Alan, who is a Certified Addiction Treatment Counselor, worked for Big Bear’s only substance abuse counseling agency.
Yet, in 2009, Alan was ready for an opportunity where he could once again be his own boss and more in control of his own career. He has a background in finance, and has served as a bookkeeper for a small Big Bear business for many years. He also is the store’s computer expert, and is a master of QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel and other software programs. He has combined all of his career skills to provide training, coaching and counseling for those Watkins Consultants who need his assistance in establishing their own business.
Since their first year in Watkins, both managers have been proud members of the elite Watkins All Star team, composed of the top growth managers in the company. Their success has taken them on two, all-expenses company paid, trips through the Watkins Grand Prize Getaway program. They have also served as guest speakers on more than one occasion at the annual Watkins International Conference.
